Chelsea has had their eye on 23-year-old Dutch player Nathan Ake with a £40million buyback option for the Bournemouth defender. Manchester United and Tottenham are two other clubs on the prowl for new defenders and it just so happens that Ake comes up with great potential for the summer.
If Bournemouth decides to cash in with the Dutch footballer, Chelsea will have to bow out according to The Telegraph. Chelsea sold Nathan Ake to Bournemouth for £20million last June of 2017 with the stipulation that allows the player to go back to Stamford Bridge for double the amount.
A bidding war may take place for Ake if Chelsea does decide to go forward with the deal, enabling Manchester United and Tottenham to engage. The desire to improve and reboot tactical defense is something Jose Mourinho wants to accomplish with or without Ake in the team. He plans to improve defensive strategy despite Eric Bailly and Victor Liderlof falling short of Mourinho’s vision.
Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld will have to be replaced under Mauricio Pochettino’s supervision if the Belgian player decides to leave by the end of the season. Alderweireld’s contract may be extended for a year but with the possibility of another club signing the defender next summer worth £25million.
