Following the hamstring injury from training, 25-year-old Romelu Lukaku is on the grind to get back to being fit and ready to play in the upcoming Etihad derby. Jose Mourinho is giving Lukaku just 24 hours to get back in shape before deciphering his playing capacity and announcing an update on Friday lunchtime.
The £75million Manchester United striker has paid his dues for just accumulating four goals, and was benched by Mourinho for the win over Everton. Lukaku also sat out of the Juventus – Bournemouth matches where the team took home the victory.
It is no surprise that even manager Jose Mourinho is in doubt that the 25-year-old Belgian will be able to make full recovery in time, but he is no doubt that he wants Lukaku’s dynamism in the rivalry game.
Lukaku did go through some light training while at Carrington, while other Manchester United players were on Champions League duty. Despite acquiring a dead leg injury in Italy, Alexis Sanchez took the lead for Lukaku in time for the derby.
